Description

I first started drawing this picture three years ago. At the time, I didn't quite have the patience (or ability) to see it through, so I abandoned what I had and forgot about it. In celebration of finishing another term in my program, I finally sat down again and finished it. Yay!

EDIT: =Asatira correctly identified the character and she's the winner! Thanks for guessing, you guys - you had some awesome ideas!

So, this is Liryl. She's a character from Lighthouse: The Dark Being, Sierra-Online's attempt to be as cool as Myst was at the time. It didn't exactly work. Lighthouse is remembered today primarily for being super creepy, and for having graphics that are much crappier than you remembered them being back in 1996.

In the alternate world you travel to in the game, Liryl was the 'Guardian and Sacred Ward' of the Temple of Ancient Machines. The temple priests took her in and created this machine for her after some hideous accident when she was a little girl, and it's what keeps her alive.

By the time you wander along, the temple priests are gone and Liryl is all alone. And without anyone to look after her, Liryl's machine doesn't function as smoothly as it used to, a fact which manifests itself in pronounced, mechanical-sounding verbal tics which you will never ever forget.

In spite of the fact that she's actually pretty darn annoying due to having a crap-ton of mediocre dialogue you have to sit through, (peppered heavily with those tics) I always liked Liryl and her tragic little story. She occurs relatively early in the game, and the best I can recall, you never do find out just what became of her.

Also: I am still not certain her name is not spelled 'Lyril'.

Heh, I just watched a Let's Play of this game because I know that, in spite of so much advanced tech to satisfy my interests, Sierra has nothing on the Myst franchise in terms of blending story with puzzles.
Lyril looks actually more realistic than her CG model (I thought the chair was a monitor), not to mention a little cuter. Too bad that they didn't do a good job with her voice, or understandable puzzles, for that matter.
